Questions about Proven Winners® plants
-
Why are Proven Winners® plants better?
Proven Winners® plants are special selections. They are created by crossing different varieties, combining the best characteristics of both parents. The new varieties are extensively tested and compared with existing varieties. Only the best are chosen and selected to become a Proven Winners® plant. Sometimes it takes up to ten years before a new variety is ready for sale. Proven Winners® plants are strong and healthy plants that always offer something extra or unique. It is no coincidence that many Proven Winners® plants have won awards.
-
Where can I buy Proven Winners® plants?
Proven Winners® plants are available at many garden centres, where you can select them and take them home with you. Not in stock? Ask the staff; they can often order the plant for you. If that doesn't work, order them through our webshop and have them delivered to your home. Is a particular variety not available in the webshop? Please contact us: we may be able to help you with information on where they are available.
-
Is it better to buy Proven Winners® plants online or at the garden centre?
Are you unsure whether to order online or buy at the garden centre? At a garden centre, you can see the plants up close and take them home with you immediately. Is a plant not in stock there? Ask the staff, they can often order it for you! Online, you may find varieties that are no longer or not yet available at the garden centre, and you can have the plants delivered to your home. But of course, you do have to pay shipping costs online. In addition, the plants are in transit for several days. We pack the plants carefully, but during transport, the plants do not receive any water or light. Because we deliver plants in sizes L and XL, the plants can handle this. However, sometimes the plants need some time to recover after transport.
-
Do you also sell Proven Winners® annuals or perennials?
No, only Proven Winners® shrubs are sold via this website/webshop. More information about Proven Winners® annuals can be found on the website: www.provenwinners.eu.
Questions about the products
-
Which size “L” or “XL” plant should I choose?
We supply the plants in an average-sized 3-litre pot, which we refer to as “L”. Or in an extra-large 5-litre pot, which is marked as “XL” in the webshop. Some plants are only available as “L”, others only as “XL”. Sometimes you can choose the size you want for a plant. Plants in a 5-litre pot have been able to grow longer at the grower, which mainly ensures that the plants are already better branched and the root system has already grown more.
We are often asked about the height of the plants. Unfortunately, we cannot give a definitive answer to this question. The height of the plant depends on the time of year. In winter/early spring, the plants are still small and often without leaves. As the season progresses, the plants grow and become taller. If you would like to know the height of the plant upon delivery, please contact us via our contact form. We will try to answer your question as best we can.
-
How many plants do I need per square metre?
This depends on the type of plant. Go to the product page, click on your plant and go to characteristics to see the dimensions of the plant. The dimensions indicated on this page are the dimensions of the plants when they are fully grown (usually about 3 years after planting). Check how wide the plant can grow and calculate how many plants can fit in one square metre based on that.
-
How big is the plant and does it have flowers/leaves when I order it?
The size of the plant depends on the species and the season. In spring and summer, most plants have leaves and sometimes flowers. In autumn and winter, they go dormant, so they will usually be bare when you receive them. This is normal; they will sprout again in the spring. Evergreen plants will of course have leaves.
-
Do I have to plant the plant immediately after receiving it?
Yes, it is best to plant the plant as soon as possible. If this is not possible immediately, place it in a sheltered spot and water it.
-
How should I plant the plants?
Find a spot in the garden. Take into account the plant's light requirements (found on the label/this website). Dig a large hole for the plant. Then remove the pot from the root ball and loosen the roots of the root ball well. Place the plant in the hole, fill with soil and water. Detailed instructions can be found on the website: select your plant under “plants”, scroll down and click on “planting tips”.
-
When is the best time to plant my plant?
For most shrubs, autumn is a good time to plant them. The soil is still warm, allowing the roots to develop well. This gives your shrub the chance to take root and start growing “in line with the seasons”. Early spring is a good alternative. If you plant in summer, bear in mind that the plant will not yet be well rooted and will therefore need regular watering, especially during hot and dry periods.
-
Which plants are suitable for my type of garden?
That depends on various factors, including the amount of sunlight and the type of soil. On our website, you will find filters that help you choose the right plant for your garden. If you are unable to decide, please do not hesitate to contact us.
-
How should I care for my plant (e.g. pruning)?
Every plant needs different care. You will find specific pruning and care tips on the product pages. Select your plant, scroll to care tips and you will find information about your plant's water requirements, fertilisation, pruning and care during the winter.
Questions about your order
-
Which countries do you ship to?

-
My country is not listed among your shipping options. Can I still place an order?
No unfortunately it is not possible to place an order directly through our webshop. Would you like to have something shipped to another country? Please contact us via the contact form or by email at info@provenwinnersplants.com.
-
Can I view and pick up the plant at your location?
No, we are an online store and do not have a physical store.
-
How can I pay?
You can pay securely and reliably via Mollie. Depending on your location, we offer the following payment options:
- The Netherlands: iDeal, credit card, Klarna
- Belgium: Bancontact, credit card, Klarna
- Germany: Sofort Bezahlung, credit card, Klarna
- France: Cartes Bancaires, credit card, Klarna
-
How do you package the plants?
We carefully package the plants in a special sturdy box designed to ship plants safely. The sturdy box protects the branches and leaves, while clever cut-outs ensure that the plant stays in place. We also put a biodegradable bag around the pot so that the soil stays in the pot during transport.
-
What is the delivery time for my order?
We want to ensure that the products arrive in the best possible condition. The shorter the plants spend in a box on their way to you, the better. In addition, we collect plants from our specialist growers every week to ensure that the product is as fresh as possible. This means that it sometimes takes a little longer for your order to be delivered.
For the Netherlands and Belgium, the delivery time is 2 to 5 working days. If you place your order just before we collect the plants from the grower, the delivery time is one or two working days. If you place your order just after that, it can take up to 5 working days.
For France and Germany, we prefer to ship on Mondays. The shipping time to Germany and France is 3-4 working days. When shipped on Monday, the order is usually delivered before the weekend, so the plants spend the least amount of time in transit. If you place an order after Monday, it may mean that the order will not be shipped until the following Monday, and it will take more than a week for the order to be delivered.
-
What are the shipping costs?
We work with quality packaging and the best delivery service. This has its price. That is why we charge shipping costs separately. The shipping costs depend on the number of plants your order and to which country the plants need to be shipped. The exact amount of shipping costs is shown when you enter your order.
Voor klanten in België bedragen de verzendkosten €15,95. Ook voor Belgische klanten geldt dat bij bestellingen van meer dan €150 geen verzendkosten worden berekend.
